Volunteering - What do our volunteers do?
There is not just the cash route to helping the restoration of the Lion Salt Works. You can donate your time, which is extremely helpful to the Trust. We have a small number of volunteers without whom the Lion Salt Works would not be able to operate, but there are always room for more. Volunteers can be involved at all levels of the organisation, from areas requiring specialist knowledge and skills, to others where enthusiasm is the only essential. Our volunteering opportunities can be separated into three main areas:
- behind the scenes: administrative, research, curatorial and collections based volunteering
- opening our exhibition centre and assisting with our public programmes/learning based activities and exhibitions
- general activities: eg mailing team , grounds maintenance etc
Why volunteer?
- volunteering is great way to get practical experience, especially for getting your foot in the door of the museums sector
- voluntary work looks good on your CV
- it’s a great way to wind down after retirement by taking up a new interest or spending more time helping others
- you'll learn and develop valuable work related skills
- it is a great way to meet friends and like-minded people
How to apply
Get in touch with us to find out how you can help. We try to match the skills, interests and talents of each person to the available tasks. Obviously we may not have enough staff time for supervision and training, and some positions are restricted to volunteers with particular skills, qualifications and experience. For these reasons there may not be any suitable opportunities at the time of your application and therefore some applicants may not be placed. However we will keep your details on file and will send you details of any suitable opportunities.
Gift Aid
Download Gift Aid Declaration Form – Rich Text Format (11kb) | PDF (21kb)
Using Gift Aid means that for every pound you give, we get an extra 28 pence from the Inland Revenue, helping your donation go further. This means that £100 can be turned into £128. Imagine what a difference that could make, and it doesn’t cost you a thing.
To qualify for Gift Aid, your income tax or capital gains tax payments must at least equal the amount we will claim in the tax year. Just print off this form and return it to us with your application form to allow us to claim gift aid on your donation.
