Cheshire West and Chester Council announce support for Lion Salt Works project.

Major projects in Northwich costed at over £20m have been included in Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Strategic Financial Plan – it was revealed today (Tuesday). The Council’s Culture and Recreation Department are bidding for the cash to help drive the regeneration of the town. Plans include:-

The replacement of the Moss Farm Sports complex with £6m state-of-the art Health and Wellbeing centre including swimming pool and mixed sports and recreation facilities.

A new Civic and Cultural Centre to replace the elderly and outdated Memorial Hall.

And the £8m restoration and development of the Lion Salt Works into a major visitor and educational centre.    Said Local Cllr George Miller: “These are all vital projects for Northwich and I am sure that all local members will give their full backing when they are considered as part of out strategic financial plan.  “The public will also have chance to comment and I hope they will overwhelmingly support the projects when consultation on the plan begins next year”.

Whilst the NWDA rejected the Council’s £1m funding bid earlier this year. CWAC are determined to continue with a project which would bring widespread, economic, social and cultural benefit to the area.

The Culture and Recreation Service will also be asking for £300,000 to fund a feasibility study to explore all aspects of the proposed development at Moss Farm.   Cllr Richard Short, Executive Member for Culture and Recreation Said: “We are driving culture and recreation as a catalyst for community and economic regeneration.

“We believe we have a very exciting agenda for the residents of West Cheshire and we are looking forward to hearing their views when consultation begins next year.
